Review: Skinfood Black Sugar Mask Wash Off
I’m pretty sure everyone knows by now that it’s important to take care of our skin, especially for us ladies. It represents our youth and beauty. Sure, you can invest in expensive skincare and all, but let’s not forget the simple, most basic thing to do to get beautiful skin – exfoliation.
I’ve been neglecting facial exfoliation for the longest time and just earlier this year, i decided to make a change in hopes for better skin. It’s great if you go for facial treatments regularly that includes exfoliation, but it also doesn’t hurt to maintain your skin by doing it yourself weekly.
After searching the internet for facial scrub recommendations, i finally came across Skinfood’s Black Sugar Mask, which is one of the brand’s bestsellers. Since there were many positive reviews on it, i decided to try it out for myself.

Enriched with minerals and vitamin, this face scrub effectively exfoliates dead skin that prevents makeup application, while revitalizing skin.
To be honest, i never took exfoliation seriously until recently. I have many blemish spots on my face that take the longest time to fade and i realized that the only way to quicken the fading process is to exfoliate regularly to get rid of dead skin cells.
Did you know that the dust in your house is mostly made up of dead skin cells?
Imagine how much dead skin cells we shed a day!

Price:
RM 44, if i’m not mistaken. I forgot so i googled. But it’s around 40s.
Packaging:
The product comes in a little white tub of 100g. The body is semi-transparent so that you can see how much product you have left.
Smell:
This face scrub kinda smells like lemon tart to me. I don’t know, maybe it’s just be. To simply put it, it smells nice and sweet. It’s nothing too offensive. Korean products usually always smell nice.
Texture:
Rough and pasty. It feels a lot like unrefined sugar. It’s advisable to use a light hand when applying this product onto your face as the product is more on the rough side.
Application:
According to the website – after washing, apply desired amount onto face, avoiding eye and mouth areas. Mix with water or toner to reduce skin irritation, and massage. Wait 10 to 15 minutes, and then wash off with warm water.

Personally, i like to use this product right after a hot shower so that it’ll give my pores a good scrub. I’ll scoop up some of the product using a spoon and apply it using my hands. I’ll massage my face briefly by gently rubbing the scrub all over my face. 15 minutes later, i’ll rub some of the scrub over my lips to exfoliate them before washing everything off.
I don’t recommend applying this product while your hands and/or face is still wet because the face scrub will turn a little milky when it’s wet.
Verdict:
My skin was noticeably smoother and brighter after exfoliating with this product. It doesn’t make my skin like it’s too tight after using, but i would always follow up with a moisturizing mask after.
I would recommend this product as it was quite effective for me and the price is affordable as well. I don’t think this product will completely remove blackheads, but i think it will reduce them if used regularly like once a week. Those with sensitive skin can give this a try, just remember to be very gentle.
I’ve been wanting to do a review on this product for a very long time and now it’s finally done! I hope you guys found this review useful! :)
My New Skincare Products
Earlier this month, i mentioned that i was going to change my entire skincare. Well as of today, i finally got all the products i’ve been considering and reading up on for the past few weeks.
You see, i used to have relatively good skin. Back then i have a set of skincare that includes cleanser, toner, serum(s) and moisturizer, all of which were pretty pricey. I later took my skin for granted and started using relatively cheaper products.
Eventually my skincare consisted of just a simple cleanser, toner and moisturizer that you can easily find at a pharmacy. I thought i didn’t need to spend so much on skin products since my skin was quite alright, but it turned out otherwise.
As i got older, my lifestyle and body changed. A simple cleanser, toner and moisturizer was just not enough. Take someone who has good skin for example, i doubt they achieved it with merely three products (unless they’re blessed with super good complexion and stuff like that, dammit!). Some people even have different sets of skincare for day and night!
So with that set in my mind, i decided to invest in skincare again.

- Cellnique Seaweed Cleansing Gel (RM 109)
- Hada Labo es Cleansing Foam Wash (RM 39.90)
- Cellnique Intensive Hydrating Oasis Gel (RM 129)
- Cellnique Skin Action Sebum Gel (RM 159)
- Kiehl’s Clearly Corrective Dark Spot Solution (RM 280 for limited edition 50ml)
- Skinfood Salmon Brightening Eye Cream (RM 90+)

This unique and all natural-based daily cleanser consist the highest grade of Algae, Pennywort and Cucumber Extracts, serve to remove pore clogging debris and impurities without over drying. Leaves skin feeling super clean, smooth and refreshed!
Benefits:
• Replenishes hydration
• Anti-irritation and soothing
• Antioxidant and skin protection
So why did i choose Cellnique over so many other brands for a facial cleanser?
Well i guess you could say it’s because i’m familiar with the brand. A couple of years ago i used to have facial treatments at Lissage de Beauty SS15, Subang Jaya using Cellnique products. I bought a couple of their products too but not their cleanser. This was all when my skin was still good.
So since Cellnique was part of my “good skin” days, i decided to run back to the brand. I went back to Lissage de Beauty for some consultation and i was recommended this cleanser. I bought it with no questions asked.

Hada Labo es is a new range for sensitive skin. It claims to be formulated using 5 additive-free ingredients such as fragrance, colorant, alcohol, mineral oils and preservatives. Funnily, this range is exclusive to Guardian only.
I saw this one day and decided to have a gentle and mild cleanser to use in the mornings. That way, i can save more on my Cellnique cleanser.

A highly concentrated Aloe Vera gel-based skin soothing and calming formulation designed for all skin types. This soothing gel is further enhanced with the infusion of Witch Hazel, Horse Chestnut, and Marine Collagen to deliver an ultra effective moisturizing function.
Benefits:
• Anti-inflammatory
• Soothing and hydrating
• Promotes wound healing
• Anti-irritant and astringent
Since i have combination skin, i was actually recommended to have two moisturizers for day and night separately. A gel moisturizer would be more suitable for daytime since my T-zone gets quite oily, while a gel-cream moisturizer would provide more moisture to other parts of my face during night time.
Unfortunately, my budget was only set for one moisturizer. So i left the gel-cream moisturizer for next time instead. I also bought this Intensive Hydrating Oasis Gel before, no complaints buying it again.

This is a phyto bio-engineering formulation gel for all skin types to reduce both blackheads and whiteheads on affected skin area without painful extraction. This daily maintenance gel also reduces sebum secretion, leaving the skin clear and producing smooth visible results within 10 days of application.
Benefits:
• Controls excessive sebum
• Reduces the formation of blackheads and whiteheads
• Reduces skin inflammatory
• Controls and prevents breakouts
• Increases skin moistures and improves skin elasticity
• Anti-irritation
Another product from Cellnique that i’ve bought and used before. Absolutely have no problem buying this one again because it helped a lot with the blackheads on my nose. I don’t recall having whiteheads either while i was using this product last time.
Now, i have a colony of whiteheads infesting around my nose and chin area. So this product was actually a must-buy on my list.

I actually came across this product while watching this video from oiseau88 on YouTube. She’s one of the very few beauty gurus that i’m subscribed to. I have to admit that i’m subscribed to her because she’s a very pretty Korean, but besides that i also like to have an insight of Korean makeup techniques and products from an actual Korean.
I’ve read some reviews and this product is apparently quite good. I’m hoping that it will help with my blemish spots. The one i got is a limited edition jumbo size. The normal one comes in 30ml and costs RM 200.

Containing arbutin and the extracts of Omega 3-rich salmon roe produced in Hokkaido Japan, this eye cream brightens and relieves dark circles around the eyes.
I just came across this product while doing research on Skinfood. After going through some reviews, this product seems to be a hit and miss. Some people said that their eye area seemed brighter, while some said it did nothing at all.
But one thing i understood for sure is that this product does not work overnight and effects can (probably) only be seen after a week or two of constant use. Also judging from the reviews i’ve read, this product does not completely remove dark circles, but brightens the eye area.
I haven’t started using any of these products yet, but i will soon.
I understand that you have to include other factors into consideration as well to achieve good skin, not just using expensive or “canggih” facial products. Getting sufficient rest, eating a good diet, and so on is all part of the package.
I’m not expecting these new products to transform my complexion to one that’s comparable to a Korean actress. I’m just hoping that these products will improve it. Only time will tell so wish me luck!
Loot: Skin Food
Whoa. I’ve been spending way too much lately and it’s all in the name of Chinese New Year. Come to think of it, how come we Chinese spend so much on just clothes for Chinese New Year? Why not buy other new stuff like cosmetics and skin care and stuff?
Yeah, that’s what i thought.
Since i’m already in the shopping mood, might as well buy some beauty products to complete the cycle.

Today’s purchases

My Shu Uemura cleansing oil just ran out so i had to get another one. I’ve been using it for years now and i don’t see myself switching to another brand anytime soon. I also bought a portable lip brush cause i lost my previous one :<

Finally bought these products from Skin Food after weeks of consideration and research. I bought their two best-selling facial masks and a peeling gel for skin regeneration.
I’ve decided to give Skin Food a try because it’s a Korean brand and we all know Koreans are obsessed with their skin. We’ll see what good these products will do for me.
My skin complexion has really turned to shits recently and i’m doing whatever it takes to make it better. I’ve been getting way too many pimples one after another until the point where i don’t even care anymore. I have blemish spots all over my face and they’re not going away anytime soon because my skin recovery rate is very slow.
I’m also planning to change my entire skincare, so these masks are just for starters.

Skin Food was very kind to provide me with all these samples as well. I’m not sure if they usually give these many samples to customers though.
On another note, i received a couple of products from Rachel K Cosmetics today and i’m really looking forward to reviewing them. I’m also really thankful because just when i was thinking of trying another BB cream, Rachel K Cosmetics came into the picture!

Thanks for the products, Rachel K! :D
Detoxing at Anggun Spa
If you’ve read my other post, you’d know that me and Hoongmao celebrated our third anniversary last month. To be honest, i don’t believe that all special occasions should be accompanied with expensive gifts. In fact, something intangible could be a great gift too sometimes.
For our anniversary this year, i thought that a couples spa therapy would be a nice treat for the both of us since we were staying at Hotel Maya.

I knew that we were gonna enjoy a treatment like this cause we never had a full spa therapy together before. And there’s no doubt that Hoongmao would enjoy a good pampering after having a hard night’s out :)
So after waking up on that Saturday afternoon, we quickly made our way down from our deluxe suite to Anggun Spa at Level 3 for our couples treat. Worn out from the night before and only had a banana to eat, we just couldn’t wait to be pampered.

We both opted for the Detoxification Therapy (RM 390 per person for 2 hours and 30 minutes), which was perfect for two walruses like us since we had such a rough night before.
We first started off by stripping down and changing into disposable underwear for a 10 minute steam bath. For 10 good minutes, we were engulfed by hot water vapor in a shower cubicle.
Steam baths are apparently good for your body. The steam helps your body release toxins while cleaning your pores. I guess it’s also useful in preparing your skin for exfoliation, like what they do during facials before extraction.
When our 10 minutes were up, we were called out by our masseuses for our next treatment – the foot spa.

We had our feet rubbed and scrubbed with rose petals and other fancy things while we sip on sweet ginger tea. At that moment i felt absolutely fabulous cause i was being pampered till it’s crazy.
After the foot spa, we were ushered to the massage bed where we lied down for our full body ginger scrub. And when i said full body, i meant full body. Every inch of your body from the neck down excluding for the area covered by the disposable underwear!
I’ve never had a full body scrub before and to be frank, i thought that my masseuse scrubbing me as if i was a curry stain on a white shirt. The scrubbing was very thorough and intense.

After 10 minutes of scrubbing, our bodies were wrapped up to let the ginger scrub work its magic for another 10 minutes. During those minutes, i could feel the effect of the ginger scrub as my body started to heat up.
The heat of the ginger scrub was quite intense and the thought of being wrapped up like a mummy marinated with ginger makes it even more intense.
Truly detoxifying!
When we were finally unwrapped, it was time for us to simmer down in a hot herbal bath.

The tub was filled with all kinds of herbs and spices. I’m embarrassed to say that the only ingredient i could recognize in the tub was lemons, which we were asked to use to scrub our body with.
The herbal bath was really relaxing. We had a pot of ginger tea to enjoy by our side and the tub was surrounded by tea light candles.
We were allowed to take our own sweet time with the herbal bath. When we decided that we were finally done, we got up and took a shower and proceeded with the full body massage.

It. Was. So. AWESOME.
I felt completely refreshed by the end of the therapy. The both of us had our batteries recharged so well that we even managed to go clubbing again later that night when our initial plan was to stay in, haha!
Besides feeling refreshed, my skin felt smooth beyond recognition! Thanks to the body scrub, my skin stayed super smooth for about two weeks even without lotion. I even told myself that i need to get myself a good body scrub so that i can achieve the same effects of the therapy.
I’m really glad that i got to experience this full course spa therapy. It was money and time well spent for the mind and body :)
Anggun Spa offers all kinds of therapies from massage therapies to bath and body treatments. If you want to give Anggun Spa a try, check out their website and see what else they have to offer :)
Review: The Body Shop Blue Corn 3-in-1 Deep Cleansing Mask
So it’s been ages since my Cellnique Advanced Bio Renewal Masque ran out. It’s quite a shame that i’m not gonna buy another one because i thought it’s pretty pricey to keep on repurchasing it.
Since then i’ve been using St. Ives apricot scrub and to be honest, i thought the results were just meh. I thought it’s high time for me to look for another facial scrub so i went to the first brand that came to my mind – The Body Shop.
You see, i’ve always wanted to get something from there but i never found a reason to until now. And they have exactly that i was looking for – a facial mask that was meant for deep cleansing and exfoliation.

And who knew that there was such thing as blue corn?
I looked up for some reviews on this product online and they all seemed pretty good. Since every review i read gave positive responses, i was set on buying this product for sure.
Key ingredients
Blue corn powder
Gently exfoliates the skin, removing dead skin cells, excess oils and dirt. Helps the native American community to continue traditional agricultural production and preserve cultural heritage.Glycerin
Is an effective moisturizer which helps improve softness and maximize hydration.Kaolin clay
Helps control shine. Deeply cleanses, drawing out impurities from the skin. Is a mineral that helps to restore the skin’s natural balance.
Product details
It comes in a little tub around the size of your palm. Despite its size, it looks like it could last you quite a long time cause you only need a little amount per use. It costs RM 55.
Also, this product is more suited for normal to oily skin. If you have very dry or sensitive skin, i reckon you try the Honey & Oat 3-in-1 Scrub Mask instead.
However if you’re still persistent on trying this product, then i’d recommend you slap on tons of hydrating products or even another hydrating mask right after using it.
Application
Cleanse skin and pat dry before applying a generous layer of the mask to the face, avoiding the eye and lip areas. Leave on for 10 to 15 minutes before rinsing with warm water (mask will not dry). Use one to two times per week after cleansing.
And that is according to the website. However on the product itself, the direction to use says to apply on wet skin after cleansing. Personally, i prefer to applying it on wet skin.
I use a spatula to scoop some of the product out from the tub and then apply it on my face. Then i use a facial brush to spread the mask. You can get these tools from SaSa.
I leave it on for about 13 minutes and then i’ll wet my face and give it a little massage before washing it off.
Texture
The texture of the mask is rather rough. In fact, it’s rougher than the scrub from St. Ives. Those with sensitive skin should be careful and gentle when massaging before washing the mask off.

Smell
I wouldn’t say it smells super good and delicious. It has some kind of unique smell. It doesn’t bother me, in fact i think i kinda like it. I can’t say the same for other people though.
Results

Before and after
I can’t really say that there’s a huge difference, but i suppose there is a little.
There’s a nice little glow on my skin after using the mask. Probably cause all the dead skin got exfoliated away. But i think didn’t do much for my blackheads.
Verdict
This product can be quite good if you use it regularly. It cleanses your skin and reduces the chances of your pores getting clogged.
However if you already have badly congested pores, i don’t think this product would solve your problem. If that’s the case, it would be best to go for a facial and an extraction. Once you got everything that’s stuck deep within your pores out, you can start using this product to maintain your skin.
I hope you guys found this review helpful! :)
Review: Hada Labo Super Hyaluronic Acid Moisturizing Face Wash
Some of you might remember that i was given a whole range of Hada Labo products back in July 2010 by Queen magazine. They wanted to do a review on the Moisturizing Lotion and i was chosen as one of the consumer reviewers.
Honestly i never thought of doing a review at first cause there’s so many products and i’m kinda lazy. However since many have asked, i suppose why not right.
So first up would be the Super Hyaluronic Acid Moisturizing Face Wash.

It’s not just hyaluronic acid, it’s SUPER hyaluronic acid!
Hyaluronic acid is a popular ingredient nowadays. It has hydrating properties that would create softer skin and improve scar recovery.
I think hydration is really important. Think about it.. you can have a smooth and pimple-free complexion, but if your skin doesn’t have enough moisture, it wouldn’t feel soft. It’s like having clean-shaven legs.. with dry snake-like skin *ahem*
Also, my beautician told me once that if i wanted my blemish spots to recover quicker, i would have to concentrate on giving my skin more hydration.
All Hada Labo products are known to be alcohol and fragrance free. They are also very affordable. As from what i found from Google, the Super Hyaluronic Acid Moisturizing Face Wash costs RM 16.90.
It has a some what thick texture and it creates a good amount of lather.
I’m not sure how others would do it, but this is how i cleanse my face.

For this product, a tiny amount would be good enough. Rinse it in some water and create a good amount of lather before applying it on the face. Then, give the face a good massage (make sure to get all the nook and crannies) but try to keep it short like less than a minute. Repeat if necessary or desired.
I would always double cleanse if i wore makeup. A good moisturizing face wash like this one makes double cleansing easy without drying the skin. I also didn’t have any negative reactions like breakouts when i switched to this face wash.
The Super Hyaluronic Acid Moisturizing Face Wash is a really good one for that kind of price. I would recommend it for those who have dry to normal skin.
