Bangkok // December 2011

Oh my. I guess you can say that it’s official that i’m a horrible blogger. I just found… a folder of pictures that has been edited… over a year ago!

Yes. These pictures were edited half-way and for some reasons (distractions and procrastination, i reckon) i stopped in the middle of the process and forgot all about it. So now here they are, the pictures from my Bangkok trip back in December 2011.

IMG_3952
It was time for our annual trip to Bangkok once again.

IMG_3974
This was the trip when we booked Novotel Fenix for the first time.

IMG_3956
Our comfortable and rather luxurious room.

IMG_3957
With a see-through shower that has an auto bath screen coming down from above.

IMG_3961
View of the pool from our room.

We took the liberty of going for a swim one day. We had a couple of beers by the pool and they so generously provided us with prawn crackers to go with it. Now that’s what i call first-class service.

IMG_3966
Mini liquor bottles, which i tried very hard not to break into.

IMG_3975
The hotel even has a smoking garden.

After checking into our hotel, we decided to make full use of our day and went exploring the city.

IMG_3983
We dropped by Central World to look at some Christmas decorations.

IMG_3986
Santa Bear!

IMG_3989
Then we had our late lunch at Platinum Mall. It’s like a tradition for me to drop by Platinum Mall’s food court and have their beef noodles every time i’m in Bangkok. Always.

So there are two main reasons why we try to visit Bangkok every year. The first one goes to Hoongmao – he wants to visit the temple to pay his respects and earn blessings. The second goes to me and i’m sure it’s obvious. I just want to shop.

We visited the temple the next day.

IMG_3994
But of course not before having some lunch. We found this little hawker stall in the alley next to our hotel.

IMG_3997
Simple but delicious noodles that’s similar to our wantan mee.

IMG_4000
The Golden Mountain Temple. Also known as Wat Saket.

IMG_4003

IMG_4004

IMG_4007

IMG_4008
Hoongmao got a little badge for making a donation.

After we were done with the temple, we decided to do some window shopping so we took a cab to MBK Mall.

It was almost evening then. Being the people who loves food so much, we just had to grab something to eat. We ended up having some sort of early dinner at 5.30pm.

IMG_4009
Thai salad, my love will never die for you.

IMG_4010
Pork rice, nyums.

IMG_4011
Omelette with oysters.

Unfortunately, this day wasn’t a good harvesting day for me. We walked and explored around quite a lot but i still didn’t manage to get a good harvest.

IMG_4017
However we did find a lot of hipster shops (and cafes) around Siam Square.

IMG_4021
We made our way back to the hotel by night fall but not before stopping by a hawker stall outside Central World.

We wanted to takeaway some Thai salad for supper and we decided to pick this lady’s stall out of the other stalls because she had the most customers lined up before her.

IMG_4025
True enough, her salad was absolutely delicious.

The next day was harvesting day. My destination was set to Platinum Mall, which is in my opinion the only place you need to go for shopping. For me, at least.

I got some pretty decent clothing this time around. I even wore some throughout the rest of the trip because i ran out of “pretty clothes”.

IMG_4029
View of the Central World fountain from the Sky Walk. Can you see the rainbow? :D

IMG_4034

IMG_4036
The BTS.

IMG_4037
View from the hotel.

Later that night, we thought of having seafood for dinner. So tech-savvy Hoongmao whipped out his iPad and checked the Trip Advisor app for some good seafood restaurants.

We found a few, but i kinda forgot how we decided on one. If i’m not mistaken, we asked the hotel staff at the concierge which restaurant was the better one out of the few that we’ve selected, and they picked this one.

IMG_4045

Lol, like you could read Thai. Sorry guys, i forgot the name of the restaurant and it wasn’t exactly in English either. The restaurant’s name was quite long too. I didn’t even bother remembering it cause we asked the hotel staff to write it down on paper for us to hand over to the cabbie.

IMG_4047
All i know is that it was quite a distance from the hotel and it was beside the river.

IMG_4051

Ah… this was shortly after i had my hair dyed and trim. It was so much shorter then… like minimum boob coverage. And the shirt that i was wearing was from my harvest earlier that day (⌒ー⌒)

And the grand feast for two begins!

IMG_4054
BEST. TOM YUM. EVER.

I’ve never tasted anything like it before. They call it tomyum, but i think the better name for it is prawn juice tomyum stew… or something like that. It’s rich, it’s delicious, and if you love prawns, this will make you do that awkward shiver dance and wet your panties.

IMG_4056
Garlic prawns?

IMG_4058
Crabssss… forgot what kind tho. LOL.

IMG_4059
Simple grilled squid.

IMG_4060
And crispy fried fish. Omg i’m so hungry now.

I’ve never went clubbing in Bangkok before so after dinner we headed to the happening club district of Bangkok called RCA.

IMG_4072

IMG_4071

RCA is like a huge strip of clubs and bars. I’m not really sure how to describe it but it’s like they have the whole street closed off. The most happening club for that night was Route66 and they even had tables out on the streets.

Thais really know how to party cause they care about nothing else except having a good time. We saw people drinking, dancing and having fun even though they were seated outside the club.

They’re not like us Malaysians who are a bit shy when it comes to dancing or just grooving to the music. It’s already that bad in a club, can you imagine if we’re seated outside? People will just be sitting still!

IMG_4073
Packed as balls. Not such a good place for two clueless foreigners.

IMG_4079

RCA is definitely a fun place to come with your friends. This will probably be a fun place for a group of girls too. Just remember to be careful cause you can never be too safe!

On to the next (and last) day in Bangkok!

IMG_4081
Our favourite pit stop outside our hotel.

IMG_4087
Yeah, drench that shit.

And we did something touristy.

IMG_4088
We visited Madame Tussauds!

IMG_4107
Hoongmao and Mr. Mao.

IMG_4110

IMG_4156
ALIENS.

It was good fun, though i’m not sure how good Bangkok’s Madame Tussauds is compared to other countries’. But everyone’s gotta visit Madame Tussauds once, right? :D

Later that night, we went to Sirocco for a drink.

IMG_4189

It’s located on the 63rd floor of The Dome at lebua. At the entrance, you could see buntings saying that Hangover 2 was filmed here. I guess they just had to show it off.

Needless to say, the view on top was beautiful. Of course at such a fancy place like this, the price tag on every item is fancy as well. But nonetheless, it’s a nice place to have a drink at. Even more so when the skies are clear with a full moon, and we were lucky to have that that night.

The winds get pretty strong on top, but moonbathing with a view of Bangkok city makes it worth while (❁´◡`❁)

Oh how i miss Bangkok!

Bangkok // Aug ’12

Earlier during the year, we found out that Sensation White was coming to Asia. Being one of the most legendary music events that originated from Europe, we knew that we just had to go for it.

Fortunately for us, the nearest country to us that Sensation will be making its stop was at Bangkok, Thailand. Ah… Bangkok. It’s the one place that i’ve visited more frequently than any other place outside of Malaysia.

So we bought our flight tickets and booked our hotels the moment our tickets for Sensation were confirmed and waited for August to arrive.

When August finally arrived, it was party time.

I’ve never bumped into so many familiar faces at the airport before. There were so many Malaysians flying over to Bangkok just for Sensation! It’s quite a nice feeling to see familiar faces on the same plane, traveling to the same place and knowing that everyone’s ready to party. It makes you feel more excited, you know?

I had a moment of self-reflection when i was filling up my visa. Now that i’ve graduated for college, i’m technically unemployed since i’m not a student anymore. Ah… the look of judgement on Hoongmao’s face as i wrote that.

Our arrival at Bangkok was delayed due to the weather. Unknowing to us, there were dark clouds hovering across the city and we had to circle around for quite a while until we could land safely. Not to mention the turbulence that we experienced.

We were greeted with a wet Bangkok when we arrived. It rained a lot during the evening while we were there, which was quite a bummer. But nonetheless, we made things work.

We all decided to take the train from the airport to the city to avoid the evening traffic. It was a good idea initially, but it turned out to be a little troublesome when we discovered the amount of stairs we had to go up and down while carrying our huge luggages. Well, not we but more like the boys  (n˘v˘•)

Everyone got a prepaid the moment we touched down. Aaand this is what happens

We stayed at Novotel Fenix together with Ningku and Charmander. It was a familiar place in Bangkok to return to for me and Hoongmao because it’s our second time staying at Novotel Fenix.

Our first time staying at Novotel Fenix was during our trip to Bangkok last year, which i have edited some of the pics from the trip but still yet to blog about. Ahem (n˘v˘•)

Anyway, we had dinner at a street stall that was just a minute’s walk away from the hotel. This is like the spot to go if you’re staying at Novotel Fenix and are too lazy to search far and wide for a place to eat.

Thai salad and tom yum soup

Fried pork and barbecue pork

Simply eaten with a packet of sticky rice. Simple and delicious. I absolutely loved the fried pork. I was particularly quiet during the meal because i was having a moment of silence for the delicious food. Mmm mmm! (ღ˘⌣˘ღ)

For some reasons, i was totally exhausted when we got back to the hotel room after dinner. We were supposed to head out for some drinks after taking a disco nap, but i just decided to stay behind and sleep while the panda heads out with the boys.

I remember Hoong was like, “You come to Bangkok… to sleep.”

>:(

Well considering the fact that we will be experiencing consecutive days of partying starting next day onwards, i personally think it’s not such a bad idea to rest for one night lor. Right or not?

Right. So anyway, being in Bangkok is all about eating, drinking and shopping. And in addition if you’re with friends, partying. But let’s talk about eating.

There’s no way you can go hungry at Bangkok. The only time you’re hungry is when you slept too long at the hotel and have had nothing to eat yet. Almost everyday, Hoongmao and i will get our first snack of the day from this little stall just a couple of steps away from the hotel on the way to the train station.

It’s kinda like lok lok where you have all these food stuff on a stick. You pick what you want and hand it over to the goodman who will cook it over charcoal for you.

We always go for sausages. Two sausages – one chicken and one pork – each. Me and Hoongmao used to share one serving, but now we just get our own cause we’re greedy like that.

We then get to choose which of the two kinds of chili sauce we want to bathe our food in. We usually opt for both sauces cause why pick one when you can have both, right?

Who would’ve thought that the simplest things can taste so delicious.

And that’s our kickstart snack for you! We would usually then head to some place else for a solid lunch. In this case, we had some noodles from a stall at the alley beside the hotel.

Thai style wantan mee, to be more precise

We didn’t do much except meeting up with some people to talk about business that day. And by “we” i meant me escorting the panda to meet some people (◡‿◡)

Later that night, the boys had a gig at a fancy club in Sukhumvit.

Ermahgerd lerverls…

Charmander looked absolutely lovely and ladylike that night.

Imagine my thoughts when we both came out from our hotel rooms (our rooms are just right opposite each other) and i saw that she was dressed up fancy and all while i… was just wearing a cropped top and a black bodycon skirt, looking all slutty and shizz. Damn.

Weren’t we going for the slut look tonight?!

Foofoo in his ketupat shirt

For some reasons, the club ran out of whisky glasses and we had to use the tall ones. Look at us in that picture. It’s like we were drinking iced Chinese tea!

Sonia / Jean / Val

The girls really know how to party. Needless to say, we all drink drank drunk.

I’m just amazed that i didn’t wake up with a massive hangover the next day. I even managed to go shopping with the girls until the evening. We had to do some last minute shopping for our outfits to Sensation because the one that we brought wasn’t working out.

Initially we were supposed to dress up as sailors, but due to the fear of Sensation’s strict “white only” dress code we decided not to as the costume had quite a bit of blue.

So this is us all dressed up for Sensation!

Not bad huh considering the fact that i bought my entire outfit on that very same day. I’m just glad that they all fit me.

Redbull vodka for the journey

We experienced quite a bit of traffic outside the venue, but once we got there it was all smooth sailing. The event was very organized. We were surprised to see that there was no horrible cues at the ticket collection booths.

Mao~

Booze was considerably cheap for a rave

It was truly an experience. A world-class event. Everything was excellently planned from crowd management to performances. The location that they picked to host Sensation was also a good one.

It was the first time i ever went to a music event and not sweat! And since it was an indoor stadium, the air conditioning was cool all night long and there are seats for you whenever you get tired.

The major plus point would be the fact that the toilets are very near and there’s not one time the toilet ran out of toilet paper! And everyone knows how to piss!! It truly makes me happy when i walk into a clean cubicle and not have the toilet seat drenched in piss. Amazing.

The only setback for Sensation was the lineup. It was decent, but i wished we had better acts. Nonetheless, it was still one hell of an experience.

The following day was our last day at Bangkok. We all woke up extremely late and took things really slow. Imagine having your first meal at around 5pm.

We had our first meal at this place in Siam Paragon. Apparently the shark’s fin here is absolutely delicious but yeah yeah i know we’re not supposed to have shark’s fin cause it’s cruel and all. We didn’t have any and weren’t planning to, if you must know.

They have other things here that are worth eating too.

Crab meat fried rice / Crab claw with noodles / Veggies

Ermahgerd…

I know it’s not Thai food and you’re supposed to have Thai food when you’re at Thailand but what the hell. This place is worth visiting and i reckon you should once you’re done with exploring Thai food.

The Rocky Road

I knew i was going to have dessert at Cream & Fudge Factory the moment i saw it while walking pass it earlier. I imprinted myself on it. It was the chosen one. And i was right.

Right for making the right choice cause it was so damn good. It’s such a torture to blog about things (especially food) that you’ve had and can’t have right now. Torture, i say!

Later that night we had dinner with some friends at this place called…

There were condoms…. condoms everywhere.

The amount of food we had here is just too much so i’m gonna leave that out. They were all delicious but i’m just gonna save you from looking at too many food pics.

Check out Hoong’s artsy shot

And that’s bout it. This pretty much sums up what we did at Bangkok this time. Food, drinks, food, drinks, party party. Not so much on shopping but i did manage to get a couple of stuff, which i will be sharing soon :)

Bangkok x Singapore 2010

Oh how time flies!

I’m saying that cause Hoongmao and i are planning for our next trip to Bangkok again! It’s a trip that he tries to go every year to pay holy respects to the temple there.

Anddd i’m saying this cause i’ve yet to post pictures from our trip last year. LOL!

Back in December 2010 i wrote a pre-post about our holiday trip saying that we were gonna go to Bangkok for a couple of days, then fly over to Singapore for Zouk Out 2010. Supastar jet-setters indeed!

It was our first holiday together with just the two of us and no one else. I have to say that it was one of the best holidays i’ve ever had. Except for the part where we got to Singapore. Singapore was shit cause Zouk Out 2010 was shit.

Anyway!

Hoong got us a really nice hotel to stay at in Bangkok. It’s so nice that it’s Barney-thumbs-up worthy. And we really missed the hotel a lot after we left.

It’s called Dream Hotel. Although it’s some what a distance away from the shopping areas, we really didn’t mind.

The hotel lobby

Personally, i think everything about the hotel was fantastic. From the interiors to the service. The hotel staffs were really friendly and useful. They would always call a cab for you while you lounge around inside. And a cab would usually arrive very quickly. It’s like first class, baby.

You can also grab these little cards from the reception. It’s really convenient if you’re planning to take a cab a lot. Or if you’re not really good at saying where you wanna go.

Just hand it over to your driver and he’ll take to where ever! It has Thai printed on it too so that it’s more convenient for the driver.

And welcome to our super cosy room!

A nice big TV!

The hotel also had free DVD rentals at the reception. The selection of movies to borrow is quite little, but hey it’s free!

One night, we borrowed Pulp Fiction :)

A rather comfortable bathroom too

I know it’s no big deal, but i’d like to point out that they would always give new bottles of water everyday too. It’s about the service, you know.

Anyway, it was late afternoon when we arrived. We decided to head out shortly after to make full use of our day.

When we were downstairs, i was taking some pictures around the lobby while we were waiting for our cab. A hotel staff came and kindly offered to help take a picture of us, so we obliged. See what i told you bout this hotel?!

It’s awesome!

And this is us almost a year ago. Once again, seeing him with short hair just feels weird haha

We took the train a couple of times too cause the station was somewhat nearby

Hawker stalls outside Central

I love these stuff!

Then we had some beef noodles at the Platinum Mall food court

Having beef noodles there is somewhat like tradition to me. Every time i go to Bangkok, i’m sure to go to Platinum Mall. And when i’m at Platinum Mall, i’d always have this beef noodle at the food court.

This time however i tried something new – cantaloupe juice. It was one of the most awesome juices i’ve had! I’m so glad that Sonia asked me to try it :)

We visited the Erawan Shrine outside Grand Hyatt Hotel

And of course some foot massage to end the day

The next day, we planned to visit the Golden Mount temple for some prayers. But before we left the hotel, we discovered probably the best hotel breakfast ever.

Starters for me

Scrambled eggs with loads of stuff in it like ham, mushrooms and tomatoes upon request

And of course, the main course

I was like

I loved everything they had there! If i was in an anime, i would be running through a meadow field with tears of joy in my eyes.

The choices they served for breakfast was awesome. And they had BACON. Just the way i liked it too. This is the kind of breakfast that i would love to wake up to everyday and we did have breakfast at the hotel everyday.

And off we go to Golden Mount!

It was a long climb up, but it wasn’t too bad

Was tired but managed to strike a pose anyway #likeabaus

Oh and i got sounded by the lady behind the counter selling bells for wearing shorts. Yeah yeah i should know better, but i only brought shorts to Bangkok cause the weather is mad hot. Message received, lesson learnt.

Hanging bells on the top

Then i forgot what we did after. LOL! That’s what you get for blogging something almost a year later.

I think we might have went shopping a little. Hmm.. *shrugs*

As we were heading back to the hotel, we came across a street vendor selling all sorts of buggy snacks. We decided to buy some back to the room.

The grasshopper tasted okay, somewhat like salty peanuts. I had no problem eating the grasshopper, but i took a really long time to have the guts to put the silkworm into my mouth. Like a really long time.

A friend of ours told us that the wormies taste like chicken flavoured Twisties.

True enough, it did. LOL!

After that, i preferred nibbling on the worms instead of the grasshoppers. We couldn’t finish it all, so we gave them to one of the hotel staffs for being so nice.

Night out at Khaosan

Had some padthai

The padthai we had at Khaosan was okay. Padthai is always good. But it was nothing compared to a shabby street stall we had our dinner at the night before. It was just a random stall by the longkang. We didn’t know where to eat so we just ate there on the way back.

And my god, the padthai was.. heavenly. To think that it came from a shabby stall beside the longkang.

But padthai is still padthai. And padthai is always good.

Still love these!

Simple but pretty awesome porridge

Random dessert stall. I saw a lot of locals ordering so i wanted some too

And drinks at a random place

We spent the next day shopping. It was also our last day at Bangkok before leaving for Singapore the day after.

Last dinner at Bangkok

Kiddy plate. Not that i’m complaining or anything..

Then the next day, we headed back to KL to catch our next flight to Singapore. When we got back to KL, all hell broke loose. Our flight got delayed for a few hours and we had nowhere to go. We tried finding a temporary stay at Tune Hotels but it was full booked.

Then when we finally arrived at Singapore, the queue to catch a cab at the airport was crazy long. I reckon cause the whole world is coming to Singapore for Zouk Out.

When we finally got to our hotel, we found out that our room is a lot more compact from what we have seen on their website. It was even hard to get a decent picture, but i took some anyways.

Here’s our room at Moon Hotel, Singapore.

This is the walkway of the room, which would require careful movements cause it’s so narrow.

The entrance to the room is on the left, and the toilet and bathroom is on the right. You can spot the sink where the round vanity mirror is on the right. Personally i thought it was odd to place the sink outside.

Then at the back, it’s like a confined space for the bed where you have to step up onto a platform and the bed will be on the floor.

You see the curtains on the left side of the bed?

Well there’s no window over there. Behind it is just a plain wall. It’s kinda funny cause i was really tricked.

On the right side of the bed, there’s a small corner for the miscellaneous items. And a glass window that sees through the shower. And that’s about it!

To be honest, i would really consider this cosy and all. Really. I’m not that fussy.

But the fact that the hotel provided bad service really pissed me off! I figured that the hotel was gonna suck the moment we checked in cause the service at the reception was shit.

They didn’t even have room service :(

We had to walk out along Dickson Road and scavenge for a place to have dinner despite being so tired. Boy were we spoiled big time by Dream Hotel in Bangkok.

After that, the panda took a nap while i went on by getting ready for Zouk Out cause.. well, there’s no rest for the wicked! Hurhur more like the vain needs more time to do makeup and all, yeh.

Smuggling some beer we bought at 7-11 by using a laundry bag, LOL!

The phone lines were super congested, but managed to meet up with Ahjie

Ahjie and friends

Beer was expensive there. Good thing we smuggled some in

Heee :3

Jovi and Kok Wing! Bet they were seeing vivid

The main stage was packed like fuck while the other stages were boring as hell, so i don’t know which is worst

Managed to find le Mario :D

About 7am

<3 <3

Then, it was a very gruesome journey home. Thinking bout it today makes me feel like as though i survived the sinking of Titanic. Or any “life-changing” incident that’s survivor related.

It was sooo bad that we decided to change our flight last minute to the next day and booked another night’s stay at another hotel. I shall leave it as that. What made the journey back so horrible shall remain a mystery.

But just know that by the time we got back to Moon Hotel, it felt like we swam across piranha-infested waters and ran through a pack of hungry hyenas. Fucking beat!

And stupid Moon Hotel wouldn’t even let us use their computer to change our flight! Instead, they asked us to go out to a cybercafe some place else!!

Stupid max.

It’s a good thing we moved back into the city center to Marina Mandarin instead, where we will be treated better, like real guests. Hmpf!

We practically hibernated when we got there. And of course rolled around in the luxury of the great Marina Mandarin *swoons*

Aftermath; taking the MRT to Ion Mall for dinner

If you look at the picture closely, you can see a red spot on my heel. I stepped on something sharp at Zouk Out and it cut my skin quite deep so i bleeded quite a bit. It hurt but i think it was no big deal.

The day was our flight back home to KL.

Had some time to kill at Changi Airport and i bought this Cookie Monster hand puppet from a toy store. It was pretty handy considering the amount of time we had to kill. Now was that a pun or what? :o

I LOLed!

Aww :)

I guess overall it was still good. It’s quite an experience and i’m glad that i had him with me when it all happened, both good and bad. Thanks for everything, love :)
