October Birthdays ’12

I’m starting to think i’m not cut out to be a blogger anymore. I actually made a list of things to blog about and yet i never really got to it. Oh Jamie, queen of procrastination and “quick updates”.

I really respect bloggers who have that drive to update their blogs so diligently, especially Joyce. She does it with such grace and balance between words and images. I don’t know how she does it, really.

Anyway, i realized that i have yet to blog about my birthday. To be honest, this year’s birthday wasn’t anything special. Maybe it’s because i’ve already passed the twenty-one mark and am now dreading to accept my age as the years continue to roll it. I’m definitely experiencing Peter Pan Syndrome.

On the other hand, i get more excited about Hoongmao’s birthday than my own. We both share the same birthday month and his birthday is just five days after mine. Presents are important during birthdays, but there’s also something else that’s equally important…

DELICIOUS FOOD!

On my birthday Hoongmao brought me to Hanare, a Japanese restaurant located at the Intermark.

I could tell that the restaurant was something the moment i walked in. Well, judging from the interior and fresh fish being displayed on ice, it was obvious that the restaurant serves high quality food with a price tag to match.

I honestly think that Hanare is one unique restaurant because it was the first Japanese restaurant i’ve encountered that offers an Omakase experience.

Omakase (お任せ?) is a Japanese phrase that means “I’ll leave it to you” (from Japanese 任す, entrust).

The expression is used at sushi restaurants to leave the selection to the chef. It differs from ordering à la carte. The chef will generally present a series of plates, beginning with the lightest fare and proceeding to heaviest, richest dishes. The phrase is not exclusive to service of raw fish with rice, and can incorporate grilling, simmering, or other cooking techniques as well.

Since it was my first time at Hanare, i decided to go with the omakase menu and leave it to the chef!

There were seven dishes all together including dessert. Everything was amazing, especially the sashimi.

I’ve never experienced sashimi melting in my mouth before and i finally did at Hanare. I’ve never had fish that tasted so fresh and pure before. If you’re a fan of sashimi, this is the place to be and believe me, you wouldn’t want to share your sashimi.

And for those who are curious, i got a lady watch for my birthday :)

Fast forward to Hoongmao’s birthday!

His birthday fell on a Friday, which was the day we had to go to Sepang for the David Guetta x Alesso rave. I didn’t get to bring him for dinner that day, so i brought him out on the following day instead.

I decided to bring him to a casual place that he hasn’t been to before – Acme Bar & Coffee. I thought that it was a decent place to bring Hoong to for his birthday dinner since i’ve already tried the food there during Kel Li’s hens night.

Grilled “Bacon” Wrapped Snails

Smoked Duck Breast Pasta

Grilled Marinated Lamb Shoulder

Fried ice-cream

I thought that i should fully utilize the birthday weekend by throwing another birthday dinner for Hoongmao, but this time, a suprise dinner with his friends.

On that Sunday, everything went on as usual. When dinner time was finally approaching, we started thinking bout what to have for dinner. I said that i was craving for some meat, and since pork was my favourite meat, i suggested that we should go to El Cerdo in KL. I also casually said that it’s been a while since we went to El Cerdo, so we should go there even more.

Hoong complies. Excellent.

While we were about to go for dinner, Hoong says, “Why don’t we go to S.Wine at Publika instead?”

“NO. I want my El Cerdo.”

“Okayyy….”

Ah… he understands that my craving demands must be satisfied. Excellent.

I really got him good this time because he had no idea his friends were gonna be there until he himself entered the private room that we booked. And so we ate and drank and ordered a suckling pig so that Hoongmao got to break some plates.

After dinner and drinks, everyone went home as piglets while Hoongmao and i concluded this year’s birthday. And that, my friends, was how we celebrated our birthdays this year (❁´◡`❁)

Oh and just in case you missed out on panda’s gift(s), i wrote a blog post about it already over here :)

Gift for Panda

While everyone else is probably groaning over the fact that Monday is already here, i’m just glad that it finally is! I’ve had quite a weekend and it’s nice to know that i can finally catch my breath and be a sloth again.

If you follow me on Twitter, you would know that it was Hoongmao’s birthday last Friday. What you didn’t know is that i’ve spent all week planning for his birthday and i can say that it’s quite a task because i have so many tricks up my sleeve! :D

It all started on a midnight when i called Hoongmao to wish him a happy birthday.

Little did he know, there’s already a surprise gift waiting for him some where in his room. After wishing him, i guided him to the place where the gift was hidden and…

TADAA!

It’s an SNSD poster! Along with a DIY frame that comes with a string at the back so that it can be hung up on a wall.

Oh imagine the laughter i had to hold in because he believed that this was his real birthday gift when it’s actually a prank! He then commented that the poster is not even autographed (so ungrateful lol), but he accepted it anyway. He also mentioned that i should’ve gotten him a SNSD DVD instead.

But of course, i had to give him his real gift sooner or later. So on Friday, i secretly hid his gift in one of the drawers that he was bound to open.

This year’s gift is a ring that Hoongmao loved and lost.

The reason why i’m sharing this is because i had this ring custom made from a couple who runs their own jewelry business, Materialise Creativity. They were very nice and helpful and i think they deserve to be mentioned.

Their custom made jewelry usually requires three weeks to make, but unfortunately, there was only two weeks left until Hoongmao’s birthday when i found them. However, they willingly accepted my request and even delivered the ring before the arranged deadline!

And the ring turned out beautiful. It looked exactly like the old ring that Hoong lost, but better! They were also kind enough to provide free resizing when we took the ring back to them the next day to have it enlarged slightly.

So panda, now that you know all the lengths i went through to get you this ring, please don’t lose it again!  ( ´ ▽ ` )ノ

Oh and please treasure the SNSD poster! (ノ>▽<。)ノ

Birthdays!

Alright it’s time i get around the procrastination and get some real work done around here.

So i’ve been soaking up a lot of me time since the holidays started about a couple of weeks ago. I’m running out of things to do so i figured it’s time to come back crawling to my blog (^□^*)

It’s November now. And it has been officially a month since my 21st birthday. October has got to be one of my favourite months in the year cause both of our birthdays is on October. Double the pleasure, double the fun!

My birthday this year was probably one of the most pampered birthdays i’ve ever had. There wasn’t any fancy soiree or anything, but nonetheless it felt great cause it lasted throughout the whole weekend.

Thursday, 6th October

There’s a couple of food that i’d like to try once in my life and one of them is fugu. The ever so exotic and potentially life threatening puffer fish. Sounds exciting, doesn’t it?

So on the eve of my birthday, Hoongmao took me for dinner at a nice Japanese restaurant at the Hilton that serves fugu.

BUT!

Unfortunately we completely forgot about the fugu and by the time we realized, it was too late. We were already done with our dinner and were too full to eat anything else :(

It’s okay though. At least dinner was still good :)

Mugshots :)

Lamb teppanyaki

Miso soup with lobster (´ε` )

And what’s Japanese without sake :)

Headed over to the newly opened Vertigo at Gardens after

Birthdays and flamings. I really wonder who came up with that. It’s like mandatory to have flamings on birthdays. I think i had two that night.

Also, i popped my first bottle of champagne on my own! Much love to Hoongmao and Jet :)

Jet / Kok “Niekon” Wing

For some reasons, i also got a lot of pats on my head that night. Maybe cause i’m always the youngest around the pack. So for the youngest to finally become an adult well.. i guess i do deserve them pats on my head ( ´ ▽ ` )

Friday, 7th October

I had dinner with my family and some relatives that night. And to Zouk after for some drinks.

BEST. BIRTHDAY. CAKE. EVER!

♡(´ε` )

Seriously kids, flamings are no fun. Unless you’re German or something, then you’ll probably enjoy flamings.

True story.

On a more serious note, i’ve learnt that it’s not about how much can you drink anymore. It’s all about having a good time. I dunno, maybe it’s the “age talk”. Lessons that you learn as you grow older.

There’s nothing cool about drunkards causing a scene. What more if you’re a lady.

But the birthdays and flamings rule still applies though. You gotta have at least one flaming, right?

IT’S STILL MY BIRTHDAY! ヾ(@⌒ー⌒@)ノ

Pork ribs

Pork knuckle

And those were just some of the food that we ordered. Ughhh for three consecutive days i was being stuffed like a Thanksgiving turkey. Not saying it’s a bad thing though. It’s good to be showered with food.. and love.

I finally got to try the much talked about mango beer too. Mmm.. Affensaft. It tastes pretty much like plain mango juice, really. Nonetheless, it’s tastes good :)

Cherrybomb ♡

Much much love for my sister and parents. Wouldn’t wanna say too much over here cause i gotta stay a tough cookie. But i’m sure you know how it goes, right :)

Wednesday, 12th October

Brought le panda out for a nice dinner at Leonardo’s on his birthday.

I’m really glad i picked Leonardo’s for dinner. Their service is excellent, the food is really good and the price is reasonable. Until now i still can’t get over their fantastic service. It’s really top notch!

Pig tail minestrone soup

Mine; shoulder loin steak

Le Panda; mixed grill

In case you’re wondering what i got him for his birthday, you can always ask him what time it is. Hint hint ( ´ ▽ ` )

Well that’s about it for now. There’s more to Hoongmao’s birthday celebration but i’ll leave that for next time :)

Ben’s Day 100911

Ben’s flaming count was seven that night. It was like 9/11. I’m sure we all know how that ended. Hope you had a good one, Ben! :)
