Shuraku
Just a couple of days before Christmas, the panda brought me to Shuraku for dinner. It’s a little Japanese restaurant in Solaris Mont Kiara, just right next to Maybank on the second floor.
We have a Japanese friend who is a chef in Shuraku. Norio-san specializes in yakitori and he makes really good yakitori. He used to work at Ri-Yakitori at The Gardens Hotel, but he shifted to Shuraku some time ago. Now, he has his own yakitori grill bar in Shuraku.
We’ve been eating Norio-san’s food since last year in Ri-Yakitori. Now that he’s shifted to Shuraku, we’ll follow him where ever he goes!
The ala carte dishes in the menu are delicious too. But i would really recommend trying the yakitori that Norio-san makes.

Interesting menu that looks like it’s written with a marker

I didn’t mind sitting by the yakitori bar because they had good ventilation. That way i can see Norio-san cook too

Norio-san on the right

Let’s start from left to right.
Pork tonkatsu, chicken gizzard yakitori, chicken wings yakitori, garlic chicken, soft shell crab and salmon roll, and chicken breast yakitori.
I’m no food critic, so i guess i’ll just tell you which one i enjoyed.
All of them. LOL!
The yakitori is awesome. I’ll never get bored of eating it. The pork tonkatsu tastes very good when dipped (or drowned) with the sauce. It’s like a party going on with the mayo, sweet sauce and mustard. The garlic chicken was flavourful and juicy, and the roll tastes like soft shell crab and salmon.
OK next.

Cheesy scallops. It freaking melts in your mouth +5 jizz points

And behold.. THE CHICKEN MEATBALL!
This.. is the meatball that all meatballs want to be. Norio-san’s chicken meatball yakitori.
+10 jizz points!
I could think of many exaggerated expressions to describe the chicken meatball, but i’ll leave that to you to experience for yourself.
Overall, i really like the food in Shuraku. I hope that people would visit Shuraku and enjoy the food there as well. And don’t forget about the yakitori please!
Hi-Tea at Hotel Maya
Phew! I finally got these pics done. I still have other pictures that are still pending, but don’t worry i’ll post them up real soon.
Psstt.. they’re from my Bangkok-Singapore trip last month! :D
I’ve been a little busy with college these past few days. Some work here and there for student council and conducting orientations for the new intake students. That’s what i call fresh meat in campus, hoho!
So anyway.. this post is dated back last year. Late of November 2010, to be exact.
Kel Li, Jen and i went to Hotel Maya for a little hi-tea session. I was looking forward to it cause i was quite excited bout the food we’re gonna have there.
Mmm.. buffet.. chocolate fondue.. and Haagen Dazs ice cream!

Entrance of Maya Brasserie, where we had our hi-tea

The area where we sat

Taken from Kel Li’s camera
Everyone always looks good in Kel Li’s pictures. It’s just this thing she does.. that makes my skin look so nice. I doubt it’s anything like that in real life, so don’t be too surprised when you see me in person k!
Oh and i also wore natural false eyelashes that day. I don’t normally wear them during the day, but i just felt like it on that particular day.
I think it really makes my eyes look nicer. I should consider eyelash extensions hmm..

Salad bar

BREAD PUDDING!

Salad with balsamic vinegar as my first dish
I freaking love the salad bar here! There’s so many dressings and not to mention, unlimited amount of turkey bacon and croutons!
I was feeling very salady that day, so i had multiple rounds of salad. I had a combination of romaine lettuce, cherry tomatoes, chicken and prawn salad plus loads of turkey bacon with balsamic vinegar.
It.. was.. JIZZ.
I felt so healthy, man.

Smoked ham

Salmon mushroom ragout in pastries and pulut kunyit with Nyonya curry chicken
That was my second plate. I took a picture of the dish names cause obviously that was the only way i could recall these fancy names. I love those two dishes btw. They were very yummy!
And please, isn’t this the right way to eat a buffet?!
To take small amounts of food per plate and not piling it all up like a mountain?!
LOL! Okay i don’t know, i guess it’s preference la.
After that it was back and forth with salad and this combination until i was satisfied enough to move on to dessert.

Haagen Dazs

BREAD PUDDING!

The Raisin
Here’s a story about The Raisin.
Jen went up to get some bread pudding, and i told her to get extra because i wanted to share some with her. She didn’t know whether i liked raisin or not, but she took ONE raisin for me anyway.
Well turns out that i don’t fancy eating raisins, so the raisin was pushed aside.
The end.

This picture was acted out btw. We’re such professionals

Now THIS is candid

I would love to go back there again. Maya Brasserie has more variety of food that i didn’t manage to capture. I was too busy being excited bout the turkey bacon and bread pudding.
I WANNA GO BACK THERE!
I have to! *makes mental note to self*
Oh and Maya Brasserie changes their menu for the main course quite often too. I hope that i’ll get Italian the next time i go back there :)
Hungers: Jackson’s Burger
It was a sunny afternoon some time around September. A bunch of us went out together to get some good noms.
I love times like these where we would spend quality time together with a bunch of friends. Bonus point if quality time involves food and drinks :D

Jackson’s Burger is located somewhere around PJ. I had no idea where we were going cause i’m terrible with PJ roads, so i just waited until our car came to a complete stop.
To my surprise, Jackson’s Burger is just a humble little truck in a housing area.
We gave our orders to the nice aunty and sat down on the stools they laid out. They have canned drinks too.

I had the beef burger with cheese and egg. It was delish! *Little Brittian accent*
There’s nothing special with the bun, but the patty. Oh my the patty.. with the egg and cheese. Very juicy indeed. I think we should pay Jackson’s Burger a visit again.
Hello, Melaka
You know.. after editing these pictures, i feel so sorry that it took so long cause the pictures are not exciting at all. I mean, if it was gonna be something worth waiting for then i guess it’s acceptable.
But oh well. I should warn you guys that i’m known for being a blackhole; pictures that i take don’t make it out until very much later. And sometimes even never :D
Anyway, this Melaka-Johor Bahru trip of ours is dated back at July 2010. The BA boys had a gig in JB and it was our first time driving down south together, so we decided to leave KL a day earlier so that we can spend a night in Melaka for food and stuff.
NikuJia drove and his GPS was very handy. All we had to do is just insert the location or address of our destination and we’re set!
We arrived at Melaka just in time for lunch. But first, we checked in our hotel to drop our luggage.

Hotel Equatorial

The little bakery at the lobby. Check out the huge doughnut on the left

A very rare touristsy shot while checking in :D

The premier room. Model not included

View outside; meh.. nothing much
So after rolling around the hotel room, it was time for food!
Although Melaka town is small, it doesn’t hurt to have the GSP to guide you around.

First stop; chicken rice ball

Unfortunately we ate in the wrong shop instead of the famous one :(

Second stop; satay babi

I could have seconds, thirds, and even fourths cause the meat was so lean. Mmm..

Third and last stop for the afternoon; Jonker 88 Desserts

Laksa

Durian cendol. Would love it even more if there was less gula melaka and more durian

After all the food, we almost called it a day but Hoongmao said that we should go exploring since we don’t come to Melaka very often.
I for one would’ve jumped straight back to the hotel because the sun was scorching and i’m always super lazy after meals. All i want to do is just roll or lie on the bed.
But it’s true that we don’t come here very often so.. went exploring, we did.

To the crocodile park!!

A stuffed and mounted crocodile. I was a little creeped out seriously

Poor chicken :(

Forced him to take a picture with the snake, hahaha
Some how i think that snakes still give out a gross feeling when you’re near it even though it’s behind a thick glass. I don’t know.. that’s just how i feel.
.. *shivers*

Meeko, is that you?!

Snapping turtle!

Supercroc

I bet he’s been at it for hoursss..
That’s pretty much the whole crocodile park. I mean, there were a few more crocodiles la but they all look alike. And they’re all doing the same thing. Chilling.
Most of them stay so still until the extent that you would wanna throw a rock at them to see whether they’ll move or not.
After that, we went back to our hotel to rest.. and only waking up for more food. Dinner time!
Oh how long have i waited for that..

We ate the famous satay celup

Omg it was jizz. I love the peanut sauce, but at the same time it’s so sinful cause too much nuts can be bad for the skin. It’s such a shame that it’s something so delicious yet.. bad for the skin. It’s hard for vain and greedy people like me.
I was the last one to finish not because i was eating slow, but it was because i kept eating! If the rest didn’t stop eating i would’ve went on eating :D
I would love to go back there for satay celup. Or better yet, somebody please bring satay celup to KL!!
After dinner, a friend who was a local in Melaka took us to a nice place to chill for drinks. Then it was back to the hotel.
Melaka was pretty much just eat and sleep. The next day we went for lunch at Nancy’s Kitchen after checking out from the hotel. They serve Nyonya food there.

Hoongmao

Tired looking me. Look at those eyebags, man. Can be doraemon’s pouch

Nancy’s Kitchen. Love this appetizer but i forgot what is it called.. some hat thingy. It’s jizz

Lunch was enjoyable. We finished it off with some cendol, which made it very satisfactory. Like lay back on the chair and go ahhhh.. satisfactory.
We did a little shopping and then set off to JB!
Sorry i didn’t think that Melaka alone would be such a long post. I’m gonna have to write on JB later cause.. i’m kinda sleepy now *yawn*
Mmm.. i want durian cendol, satay celup, and hat appetizer thingy..
The Meat Experts

This sounds like the right place to feed a person with a carnivorous appetite. And that would be me!
I noticed that my eating diet involves a lot of meat and potatoes. Well, mostly meat cause i actually get cravings for MEAT. Potatoes just come along the way like fries and mashed taters. I wouldn’t even touch my vegetables unless someone puts it on my plate.
Isn’t that a whole load of carbs! Still no weight gain, what a load of bull -_-;;
Okay so anyway, The Meat Experts. It’s at Plaza Damas, Hartamas. It was a Sunday and we went there for dinner.
It was tough making up my mind on what to order, but i think i went for the chef’s recommendations. Can’t remember. But one thing’s for sure is that having beer there is a must!

I grew a liking for Starker beer after taking my first sip! I think the after taste is very sweet and it’s super nice. We had the Starker Lager. It’s very unique; served in a ice cold mug and the beer stays icy cold throughout our whole dinner.
I had seconds hehe. It went very well with our dinner, nyums.

Siew yuk; nyums

Sah-lard

More sah-lard from my set

Pork ribs; moine!

Ham steak
The food however, was alright. It was good, but not the kind of good that makes you wanna have a exploding reaction. I think there are other places out there that serves tastier meaty stuff. Still, i don’t mind The Meat Experts :)
Monday Noms: Decanter

Time flies like crazy! I’m already on my second week of my holidays and i’m starting to worry already. I’m so greedy; one month isn’t enough for me! I WANT MORE!
Anyways, i’m glad that i got to spend the day with the p today. It’s like another Sunday. Eat, go home, and watch some DVDs.
But but! The eating part is always a problem because..
One, we always have problems making up our mind on where to eat unless we have cravings and two, we always end up rolling home cause we get too full after eating -_-;;
Today we went to Decanter at Section 17; it was my first time there. I also don’t know how to get back there cause i wasn’t paying attention to the directions during our journey there. Fail.
Sorry peeper, can’t bring you all there :(

The iPhone effect. Hmpf

Me, looking very messy and stressed out for no reason :o

Wild mushroom soup

Caesar sah-lard plus salmon

Hainanese chicken chop

Shepard’s pie

Nyumm..

Minutes later.. looking pitiful cause i cannot finish my food

Ended up taking it away
That was a whole lot of meat!
Anyways, the food at Decanter were decent. I quite love the wild mushroom soup, it was very tasty. The Hainanese chicken chop is good too; it’s their signature dish. And my first thought on that dish would be just like the Hainanese chicken rice.. just without rice. Get it? :o
Will definitely go back there again and slow down on the starters and main course to leave room for dessert.
.. Eh i’m not trying to sound all food reviewer-ish okay i’m just sharing! *shifty eyes*
I’ll be back soon with more to share! :)
