Remembering Final Fantasy

Why hello, dear blog and whoever who still reads it! I’m here to announce that i’ve been successfully bumming around for two whole months now. And am i bored of it yet?

Nope.

And what have i been keeping myself busy with, you ask? Well, just a couple of weeks ago i had the sudden idea of playing Final Fantasy IX again.

As the title suggests, Final Fantasy IX is the ninth installment of the game series and it’s the last one to debut on the Playstation in 2000.

Final Fantasy IX was my first Final Fantasy. It kind of makes me proud to say that it was also my first role-playing game (RPG) since the FF series are considered to be one of the best RPGs (if not the best) in the world.

I remember buying the game when i was at a shopping mall in Penang back around 2000-2001. I was looking for some Playstation 1 games to buy and i asked the dude what’s good to play. He recommended me Final Fantasy IX saying that it was new and is part of a very popular RPG game series. Since it was highly recommended, i bought it along with a few other games.

Hell, i even bought a Final Fantasy IX guide book for RM 29.90 just cause it was recommended to go along with the game. I know, i’m weak when it comes to buying things.

Opening scene of Final Fantasy IX

When i got home, i didn’t actually play the game right away. In fact, i only moved on to FF IX after i was done with all of my other games cause i didn’t have anything else to play.

And who would’ve thought that it turned out to be one of my favourite games ever. I mean, would you just look at the opening scene?

Those graphics were considered to be way beyond for its time and Final Fantasy are always known for their awesome cinematics. And of course they had to feature the pretty chick in the opening scene. You could instantly tell that this was gonna be a good game!

Besides the graphics, the gameplay was really fun too. I really liked the idea of RPG then. There are so many things to discover in the game because apart from the main storyline, there are also other side quests for the player too.

Exploring the world, leaving no rock unturned and searching every nook and cranny for treasure and rare items, getting into battles and making your characters stronger.

And let’s not forget another important component of the Final Fantasy series – the soundtrack. It’s really important for a game to have a good soundtrack. What more if it’s an RPG that involves hours and hours of gameplay.

I absolutely love the soundtrack. A Final Fantasy original soundtrack (OST) usually comprises of four discs, which includes every track you hear during the game. And usually there’ll also be a piano collection, which includes piano versions of some of the more prominent tracks of the game.

I kinda know the OST for Final Fantasy IX and Final Fantasy X inside out cause they’re two of my favourites.

Well that’s about my love for Final Fantasy. I can’t say which Final Fantasy is the best, because every one of them is different and everyone has their own favourite.

Anyway, i got a PS Emulator for my laptop and i’ve been playing FF IX. That explains why i’ve been MIA. I’m already on disc 3 now. I’m currently in the middle of accomplishing some side quests and what nots before continuing on the main objective.

And that’s Final Fantasy for me! :)

p/s: I’m so happy that Final Fantasy Distant Worlds are coming to KL in November. And i’m extremely happy that Hoongmao got us tickets to see them. I don’t say this very often but it’s truly a dream come true because i’ve always wanted to see them. Every time i watch their orchestra on YouTube, i’ll say “One day.. i’m gonna be there. I WILL see them.”

Who would’ve thought that they will be coming to me instead of me finding my way to see them in another country! :)

This is How I Roll

So here i sit with my laptop on my lap on front of the loving room tv. The History channel is on with Titanic Mystery Solved in the background. I was actually thinking of updating this blog with one of my many adventures in my so-called-happening life, but all i can think about is rolling a katamari.

Last Saturday, i brought the xbox home with me and i got reacquainted with this gamed called Beautiful Katamari.

It’s part of the Katamari series of games following the initial Katamari Damacy. The concept of the game is pretty much the same through each series:

The game’s plot concerns a diminutive prince on a mission to rebuild the stars, constellations, and Moon, which were accidentally destroyed by his father, the King of All Cosmos. This is achieved by rolling a magical, highly adhesive ball called a katamari around various locations, collecting increasingly larger objects, ranging from thumbtacks to people to mountains, until the ball has grown great enough to become a star.

I guess it’s obvious by now that this game is a product of the Japanese. Only the Japanese can think of such bizarre things.

I discovered this game years ago. Though i’m not sure how, i remember discovering it with Jason. Everything in this game is just so happy-looking. From the characters to the soundtrack. I guess it was very us.

Hoongmao: Is this supposed to be.. therapeutic?

Why, yes. Nothing is quite therapeutic (and fun) like rolling things up into one big ball of junk :D

Too Cute: Pokemon Crochet

I know some of you may have already saw this on 9GAG, but i just had to share it here. These Pokemon crochet made by Geeky Cute Crochet is just too cute to pass. Pokemon was my time! Geezus, i think i’ve come to a point of age where i start reminiscing bout my childhood.

It was a really hard choice to make when choosing among Squirtle, Bulbasaur and Charmander. Just in case you were wondering, i picked Charmander. I still think that the first generation Pokemon is THE BEST. Didn’t even bother bout the rest, but i came to know about Mudkip through a meme.

Damn, now i gotta find my way to watch the first Pokemon movie again.
