Bangkok x Singapore 2010
Oh how time flies!
I’m saying that cause Hoongmao and i are planning for our next trip to Bangkok again! It’s a trip that he tries to go every year to pay holy respects to the temple there.
Anddd i’m saying this cause i’ve yet to post pictures from our trip last year. LOL!
Back in December 2010 i wrote a pre-post about our holiday trip saying that we were gonna go to Bangkok for a couple of days, then fly over to Singapore for Zouk Out 2010. Supastar jet-setters indeed!
It was our first holiday together with just the two of us and no one else. I have to say that it was one of the best holidays i’ve ever had. Except for the part where we got to Singapore. Singapore was shit cause Zouk Out 2010 was shit.
Anyway!
Hoong got us a really nice hotel to stay at in Bangkok. It’s so nice that it’s Barney-thumbs-up worthy. And we really missed the hotel a lot after we left.
It’s called Dream Hotel. Although it’s some what a distance away from the shopping areas, we really didn’t mind.

The hotel lobby
Personally, i think everything about the hotel was fantastic. From the interiors to the service. The hotel staffs were really friendly and useful. They would always call a cab for you while you lounge around inside. And a cab would usually arrive very quickly. It’s like first class, baby.

You can also grab these little cards from the reception. It’s really convenient if you’re planning to take a cab a lot. Or if you’re not really good at saying where you wanna go.
Just hand it over to your driver and he’ll take to where ever! It has Thai printed on it too so that it’s more convenient for the driver.

And welcome to our super cosy room!

A nice big TV!
The hotel also had free DVD rentals at the reception. The selection of movies to borrow is quite little, but hey it’s free!
One night, we borrowed Pulp Fiction :)

A rather comfortable bathroom too
I know it’s no big deal, but i’d like to point out that they would always give new bottles of water everyday too. It’s about the service, you know.

Anyway, it was late afternoon when we arrived. We decided to head out shortly after to make full use of our day.
When we were downstairs, i was taking some pictures around the lobby while we were waiting for our cab. A hotel staff came and kindly offered to help take a picture of us, so we obliged. See what i told you bout this hotel?!
It’s awesome!

And this is us almost a year ago. Once again, seeing him with short hair just feels weird haha

We took the train a couple of times too cause the station was somewhat nearby

Hawker stalls outside Central

I love these stuff!

Then we had some beef noodles at the Platinum Mall food court
Having beef noodles there is somewhat like tradition to me. Every time i go to Bangkok, i’m sure to go to Platinum Mall. And when i’m at Platinum Mall, i’d always have this beef noodle at the food court.
This time however i tried something new – cantaloupe juice. It was one of the most awesome juices i’ve had! I’m so glad that Sonia asked me to try it :)

We visited the Erawan Shrine outside Grand Hyatt Hotel

And of course some foot massage to end the day
The next day, we planned to visit the Golden Mount temple for some prayers. But before we left the hotel, we discovered probably the best hotel breakfast ever.

Starters for me

Scrambled eggs with loads of stuff in it like ham, mushrooms and tomatoes upon request

And of course, the main course
I was like

I loved everything they had there! If i was in an anime, i would be running through a meadow field with tears of joy in my eyes.
The choices they served for breakfast was awesome. And they had BACON. Just the way i liked it too. This is the kind of breakfast that i would love to wake up to everyday and we did have breakfast at the hotel everyday.
And off we go to Golden Mount!

It was a long climb up, but it wasn’t too bad

Was tired but managed to strike a pose anyway #likeabaus
Oh and i got sounded by the lady behind the counter selling bells for wearing shorts. Yeah yeah i should know better, but i only brought shorts to Bangkok cause the weather is mad hot. Message received, lesson learnt.

Hanging bells on the top

Then i forgot what we did after. LOL! That’s what you get for blogging something almost a year later.
I think we might have went shopping a little. Hmm.. *shrugs*

As we were heading back to the hotel, we came across a street vendor selling all sorts of buggy snacks. We decided to buy some back to the room.
The grasshopper tasted okay, somewhat like salty peanuts. I had no problem eating the grasshopper, but i took a really long time to have the guts to put the silkworm into my mouth. Like a really long time.
A friend of ours told us that the wormies taste like chicken flavoured Twisties.
True enough, it did. LOL!
After that, i preferred nibbling on the worms instead of the grasshoppers. We couldn’t finish it all, so we gave them to one of the hotel staffs for being so nice.

Night out at Khaosan

Had some padthai
The padthai we had at Khaosan was okay. Padthai is always good. But it was nothing compared to a shabby street stall we had our dinner at the night before. It was just a random stall by the longkang. We didn’t know where to eat so we just ate there on the way back.
And my god, the padthai was.. heavenly. To think that it came from a shabby stall beside the longkang.
But padthai is still padthai. And padthai is always good.

Still love these!

Simple but pretty awesome porridge

Random dessert stall. I saw a lot of locals ordering so i wanted some too

And drinks at a random place
We spent the next day shopping. It was also our last day at Bangkok before leaving for Singapore the day after.

Last dinner at Bangkok

Kiddy plate. Not that i’m complaining or anything..

Then the next day, we headed back to KL to catch our next flight to Singapore. When we got back to KL, all hell broke loose. Our flight got delayed for a few hours and we had nowhere to go. We tried finding a temporary stay at Tune Hotels but it was full booked.
Then when we finally arrived at Singapore, the queue to catch a cab at the airport was crazy long. I reckon cause the whole world is coming to Singapore for Zouk Out.
When we finally got to our hotel, we found out that our room is a lot more compact from what we have seen on their website. It was even hard to get a decent picture, but i took some anyways.
Here’s our room at Moon Hotel, Singapore.

This is the walkway of the room, which would require careful movements cause it’s so narrow.
The entrance to the room is on the left, and the toilet and bathroom is on the right. You can spot the sink where the round vanity mirror is on the right. Personally i thought it was odd to place the sink outside.
Then at the back, it’s like a confined space for the bed where you have to step up onto a platform and the bed will be on the floor.

You see the curtains on the left side of the bed?
Well there’s no window over there. Behind it is just a plain wall. It’s kinda funny cause i was really tricked.
On the right side of the bed, there’s a small corner for the miscellaneous items. And a glass window that sees through the shower. And that’s about it!
To be honest, i would really consider this cosy and all. Really. I’m not that fussy.
But the fact that the hotel provided bad service really pissed me off! I figured that the hotel was gonna suck the moment we checked in cause the service at the reception was shit.

They didn’t even have room service :(
We had to walk out along Dickson Road and scavenge for a place to have dinner despite being so tired. Boy were we spoiled big time by Dream Hotel in Bangkok.
After that, the panda took a nap while i went on by getting ready for Zouk Out cause.. well, there’s no rest for the wicked! Hurhur more like the vain needs more time to do makeup and all, yeh.

Smuggling some beer we bought at 7-11 by using a laundry bag, LOL!

The phone lines were super congested, but managed to meet up with Ahjie

Ahjie and friends

Beer was expensive there. Good thing we smuggled some in

Heee :3

Jovi and Kok Wing! Bet they were seeing vivid

The main stage was packed like fuck while the other stages were boring as hell, so i don’t know which is worst

Managed to find le Mario :D

About 7am

<3 <3

Then, it was a very gruesome journey home. Thinking bout it today makes me feel like as though i survived the sinking of Titanic. Or any “life-changing” incident that’s survivor related.
It was sooo bad that we decided to change our flight last minute to the next day and booked another night’s stay at another hotel. I shall leave it as that. What made the journey back so horrible shall remain a mystery.
But just know that by the time we got back to Moon Hotel, it felt like we swam across piranha-infested waters and ran through a pack of hungry hyenas. Fucking beat!
And stupid Moon Hotel wouldn’t even let us use their computer to change our flight! Instead, they asked us to go out to a cybercafe some place else!!
Stupid max.
It’s a good thing we moved back into the city center to Marina Mandarin instead, where we will be treated better, like real guests. Hmpf!
We practically hibernated when we got there. And of course rolled around in the luxury of the great Marina Mandarin *swoons*

Aftermath; taking the MRT to Ion Mall for dinner
If you look at the picture closely, you can see a red spot on my heel. I stepped on something sharp at Zouk Out and it cut my skin quite deep so i bleeded quite a bit. It hurt but i think it was no big deal.
The day was our flight back home to KL.

Had some time to kill at Changi Airport and i bought this Cookie Monster hand puppet from a toy store. It was pretty handy considering the amount of time we had to kill. Now was that a pun or what? :o

I LOLed!

Aww :)
I guess overall it was still good. It’s quite an experience and i’m glad that i had him with me when it all happened, both good and bad. Thanks for everything, love :)
The Cranberries – Linger
I think this might just be my favourite song of all time cause everything about this song is right.
Shuraku
Just a couple of days before Christmas, the panda brought me to Shuraku for dinner. It’s a little Japanese restaurant in Solaris Mont Kiara, just right next to Maybank on the second floor.
We have a Japanese friend who is a chef in Shuraku. Norio-san specializes in yakitori and he makes really good yakitori. He used to work at Ri-Yakitori at The Gardens Hotel, but he shifted to Shuraku some time ago. Now, he has his own yakitori grill bar in Shuraku.
We’ve been eating Norio-san’s food since last year in Ri-Yakitori. Now that he’s shifted to Shuraku, we’ll follow him where ever he goes!
The ala carte dishes in the menu are delicious too. But i would really recommend trying the yakitori that Norio-san makes.

Interesting menu that looks like it’s written with a marker

I didn’t mind sitting by the yakitori bar because they had good ventilation. That way i can see Norio-san cook too

Norio-san on the right

Let’s start from left to right.
Pork tonkatsu, chicken gizzard yakitori, chicken wings yakitori, garlic chicken, soft shell crab and salmon roll, and chicken breast yakitori.
I’m no food critic, so i guess i’ll just tell you which one i enjoyed.
All of them. LOL!
The yakitori is awesome. I’ll never get bored of eating it. The pork tonkatsu tastes very good when dipped (or drowned) with the sauce. It’s like a party going on with the mayo, sweet sauce and mustard. The garlic chicken was flavourful and juicy, and the roll tastes like soft shell crab and salmon.
OK next.

Cheesy scallops. It freaking melts in your mouth +5 jizz points

And behold.. THE CHICKEN MEATBALL!
This.. is the meatball that all meatballs want to be. Norio-san’s chicken meatball yakitori.
+10 jizz points!
I could think of many exaggerated expressions to describe the chicken meatball, but i’ll leave that to you to experience for yourself.
Overall, i really like the food in Shuraku. I hope that people would visit Shuraku and enjoy the food there as well. And don’t forget about the yakitori please!
I Like Presents
Here comes the remaining presents that i got for my birthday. I’ve decided to share with you guys cause i figured some of you might be interested hehe.
Well there may not be many presents, but it doesn’t bother me at all because i love all of my presents. I feel comfortable with receiving few (but high quality) birthday presents :D

My sister got me a small wallet from Coach. I suppose it’ll be good for holding stuff like my IC, some money notes and coins when i’m making short trips out. Maybe like the pasar or something, haha.

A charm for my charm bracelet from Kel Li. Too bad i didn’t wear my charm bracelet to the surprise dinner, or else she could’ve done the honours of putting it on for me.
You know like how a groom puts a ring on a bride *ahem*

And the last present i got was from Jingi the lady friend. She sort of compiled a YSL goodie bag for me, it’s sooo awesome!
She got me those YSL Rouge Volupte lipsticks we were eyeing on. Not just one, but THREE! She also got me one of YSL’s star products called Touche Eclat, which is a highlighting pen. All of these came with a free body lotion and compact mirror.
I’ve already used one of the lipsticks and i love it. Both Jingi and i love it!
I’ll do a review on it once my nasty pimple is gone and my complexion is recovered, promise! This is something too good to not share.
Anyway, that’s all i have for my birthday this year. The dinners and presents, you’ve seen them all now :)
Birthday Dinner Surprise at Opus
Okay so i’m picking up from where i left off regarding my birthday. I’m lagging to the maximum here, i know.
ANYWAY!
The week before my birthday, the panda clearly stated that he will be taking me for two dinners for my birthday. I was like wow, i get not one but two dinners *feels special* haha!
One would be on the day of my birthday itself, and the other will be on the next day. It’s sounds really suspicious la but i thought he was just being generous so.. who wouldn’t want more special dinners anyway right?!
So on that Friday night, i dolled up more than usual cause i wanted to look pretty. Normally i wouldn’t do so if it was a normal dinner out.

I wore some brown eyeshadow and tight lined my eyes with black liner, plus some natural false eyelashes that i bought from Timesquare. I also flipped my fringe back to side parting, but i regretted that cause it got very messy later that night.
And off we go to the mysterious dining place!
I found myself some where in Bangsar. After we found a parking, i can only wonder which place are we eating at as we were walking past the stretch of restaurants.
And as we were entering this particular restaurant called Opus, i spotted someone very familiar standing there with a camera as though he was waiting for me.
Gasp!

It was Nigel!
And gasppp! Everyone else too!
SUPRISEEEE!!

Balloons!

Ballooooonnnssss..
I was a little sad because i thought that i wasn’t gonna see my friends for my birthday that week, but i was wrong! It was such a pleasant surprise to see everyone.
Oh and the setting! Kel Li went all out in arriving early to prepare the balloons and everything. They all know i have a thing for helium :D
My seat had the most balloons tied to them because i was the birthday girl, hurhur.

Pukebar friend, Su Yiean

Leka the Nympho and Elaine the Lover

Sue, Jason, and very-formal-looking Sheng Yeong

The high school peeps got me a laptop sleeve for my mac. Love it cause it’s pink!

Daphne and Hamsap Yatz

Nigel and Kel Li

Hoongmao :)

Ah Shua

Ren and Joshua

Oops almost forgot bout Unker Sheon :p

Perfect picture for the saying “boys and their toys”

Apparently i was the last to finish my food cause well.. i was laughing so much! Stupid Jason. I practically laughed till my tears rolled out when we did lip my stockings.
Kel Li was like eyeballing me cause i was delaying the next surprise due to my slow eating. Obviously we were gonna have birthday cake after dinner, but i didn’t know what kind of cake we were gonna have.
I had..

Stormtrooper cupcakes! Jason was like all envious and the waiter was like :3

Super layan singing happy birthday to myself, haha

School peeps

And a group picture to end the night
Some of us adjourned to Vintry for drinks after.
Overall i had a great time. The food and company was good. Speaking of food, i would recommend Opus cause their stuff was delish.
It was quality time indeed. I’m glad that my birthday celebration was a decent one instead of one that ends up with me puking all over..
o_o
Much thanks to all my friends and panda for making me feel so loved that night :)
Next up, presentsss.
Birthday Dinner
So on the day of my birthday, the Panda took me for dinner at some rather far away place. He didn’t tell me where we were eating. Instead he handed me his iPhone with a pre-loaded map and asked me to navigate us to our destination.
I officially suck in navigating.. with iPhone’s Maps. We missed so many turns because of me. But in my defense i shall say that the map was very misleading and confusing, hmpf.
I had no clue where we were heading until we were actually in Putrajaya. Big roads, tall buildings and fancy lamp posts. And after some slight detour, we finally arrived at Putrajaya Shangri-La.
We dined at Azur restaurant. It’s a very quiet place, but the setting was very nice. The service was excellent, even the staff went all out by decorating our table. It was the epitome of romantic. Still, we couldn’t resist giggling at the cheesy-ness *ahem*
Oh and the food was so good. Don’t mind going back there again. Er i don’t really remember all of the dishes so you guys are gonna have to do with inaccurate dish names. I know i know, this is what you get for blogging something a month later.

Caesar salad

Seafood soup

Salmon and sea bass roulades

Lamb shank

Birthday cake on the house
